A VINDICATION.
Sib, — It was with deep feelings of both astonishment and regret that the neigh* .hours of Mr and Mrs Keighley (of ..whom I am one) rrad m your last .Thursday's issue the violent and abusive strictures made upon them by the popular R.M. at Hamilton, when passing sentence on the boy Keighley. I have known Mr and Mrs keighley for twelve years, and hare no hesitation m saying that a kinderjhearted, more inoffensive, or industrious- couple are not' to be foundjn the Waikato. Where i they may have been to blame U, m trying to keep their son at home, m. hopes that he would profit by their good example, instead of sending him where he now is, when they found that he was going beyond 5 their control. But they thought that the ship was a dangerous place, and those of us that are parents,, can make allowance for their v feelings. By his many vagaries (which I need not occupy your space by recounting) daring the last two years, many of us have come to the cpncluaion that the lad is non compos mentis, although he may have been ; cunning enough to try and excuse himself by laying the blame on his parents. In conclusion, I may say that Mr and Mrs Keighley have our deep sympathy, and we consider that they are entitled to demand a most ample apology. — I am, &c, Gordon C. V. Tisdale. Auburn, Alexandra, August 27, 1877.
