Information was telegraphed from Hamilton to the effect that prisoner had stolen a boat, and he was arrested accordingly. It had since turned out that tho young couple had ridden away on two swift horses, and that the boat had only drifted about half a mile from the spot. The I_en.li immediately discharged the inuocent young man. Dunedin, last night Scarlet fever is extending. A petition with 15.000 signatures is sent to Wellington in favour of retaining the fever hospitalAn old printer was sent to gaol because there is no charitable institution to receive him. A public meeting protested against the opening of the Mus.uni on Sundays. ♦
