OPENING OF THE RILWAY TO NEWCASTLE.
The long-looked for event of the opening tlae line from Mercer to Newcastle, will take place on Monday next, though the line will not be formally handed over to the general manager toe Working till Tuesday, the 14th inst. On Monday the contractor will run a train m connection with the morning train from Auckland, arriving at Newcastle at 12.43 a.m. This train will be for invitees and bona Jide passengers by coach to places south of Newcastle. Mr Carter will receive his passengers at Newcastle per the- new arrangement the same as if the lino was m full working. The mails will be delivered to . him at Newcastle on Monday also. Passenger trains leave Auckland for .Newcastle daily at 7 a.m. and 1.45 p.m, arriving' m Newcastla at 12.43 a.m. and 7.25 p.uu respectively. They leave Newcastle for Auckland daily at 6 a.m. and at 1.30' p.m., arriving at Auckland at 11.35 a. m. - and 7.2 p.m. respectively.
