Wellington, yesterday. : " WAIKATO PETITIONS. Id' the House, yesterday, the Hoii; Mr ' WKitakfer presented a petition "from the. Chairman and County' Council of Waikato, stating , that a certain road m the county runs through a poor district, consisting chiefly of Crown Lands, from which only » small revenue is received. The road is m a bad state of repair; The petition asked that the Government should thej put the road m repair. A petition was also presented by Mr Cox, from certain natives who were prevented from attending tho Native Lands Court m 1868, at Cambridge, also from certain natives, complaining of improper confiscation of their lands. The Agent-General advises the departure of the ' Otaki for Auckland with 214 immigrants. '...;.. Dunedin, last night. Mr Aickin. of Auckland threatens the Dunedin Council with an action for refusing- to consider his ( lans for a town hall on the ground of being too late m telegraphing they would be received; The Jockey Club had a very successful meeting. The attendance was larger than ever before. Despite an unusually large expenditure of £8,208 during the year the club commences this season with a credit balance of £1,782. •• The Good Te nplars have forwarde 1 to Mr Fox five petitions for his Bill, bearing 6,627 signatures, 2,260 from ' Dunedin and suburbs \ 3,085 from inland towus, and 1,092 irom Southland. . .
