HARAPIPL.
Sir,— l wish to correct epjne mistatements made by your own correspondent at Hampepe, m your impression of tb« 4tu inßtait. It is true that Mr Thompson stated that work Bad been done without the sanction of the Board and for the; benefit of private parties, but he forgot to add th«.t the Chairman denied the truth of- his statement. In one instance a survey had been made without the previous sanction of the' Boaid, but to say that it or any work whatever had been done for the benefit of private persons is Btmply a falsehood . I Bhould have thought common sense might have toughfc 1 your own ' not to refer to the school af f er tne manner m which he acted. If all the settlors were like him there would ; never be either road or school m the | district ; fortunately all the Board are not imbued with the spirit of fault-find-ing and narrowminded selfishness, which are the prevailing characteristics of | your own.' I have no wish to enter into a discussion of any sort with him, but ho would do well to remember the old proverb abont 'letting sleeping; dogs lie.' -I am, Ac, Edward J McMinn.
