We would draw attention to the rate of charges and commission, as specified m the advertisement m another column. •■ The Rangiaohia Riding,— From the first we have peioted out the injustice done to the important riding of Kauejiaohia m giving it the right to return only a single member to the Waipa County Council. We notice that at the meeting of ratepayers of the Raugiaohia Highway district, just held, a motion was brought forward by Mr Mandeno and carried, " that the new trustees and the mover be requested to draw up a petition to the Assembly praying the ' House to grant a second member of the Couuty Council of Waipa for the Rangiaoni t riding." Such petition, we think, should m addition receive the signatures of the several members of the County Council. The Agent-Gen bb alship. — The Wellington correspondent of th» We. son '[Tunes' writes that the following was the correspondence with the AgentGeneral : 'To tne Agent-Geueral : My dear Sir Julius, — To assuage the Opposition's ' Heath* n rage, 1 will you resign jour present billet : we've got a man out; hero to fill it. , (Signed) A Kl>son. To this the following reply was received on Thursday moruing: 'Lmdon, 18eh July : To the Hou., etc :— You ask me, Major, to resign this pleasant agency of mine. You cannot seriously 'suppose it. Not for Julius, if he knows it. (Signed) Vogel.' The Urawhao|Block. — At the meeting of the Waste Laud Board, held on Wednesday, the Chairman said that at a previous meeting of the B >ard it wa9 decided to offer for sa c the (7r<iwha» Biock, but a difficulty arising as to bow ie should be oUised, 1C ha. ultimauly been*determin«d ih»t arepoit should be made of its character. < Toe report was now m .his hands. It w,aa by Mr Camp bell, surveyor. The .report which waa then read, stated th*V in parts, of the biock the land was very good; the other parts were swampy, buc that could be remedied by draining. Speaking generally, it more nearly approached first than second-class land. — The Chairman said his opinion had been confirmed by the* Chief Surveyor, Mt Percy Smith. A.letter from Major F Nrlaon George, recommending tue subdivision of she block iuto lots of moderate area, having been read, the Board resolved that the laud should be offered for sale m lots of 300 acres eaon ; that • road should be laid out thiounhout the block, aud provision made for draining by two cross roads. Thames Waikato Railway. — Th« Auckland ' Herald,' after speaking of the whole cost of the proposed line, goes ou to Bay ? —'If it were determined to construct the line only, from Hamilton or Cambridge to Ohineniuri, leaving the rest of the distance to river carriage, the cost would be about half, and nuun a line would probably be found sufficient for some years. Last session, Sir George Grey moved m the matter, but had to withdraw,. owing to the opposition of the Government. The hon. member for the Thames now, m this matter, occupies a much stronger position, and the Government may be at once silenced by pointing to the recent report of their own officers, and to the undeniable facts, of the case. We 'observe, that Sir George Grey has intimated his intention of asking the Government whether they intend to proceed with the construction of the live, or if they mean to promote it. We hope they will answer they do. At all events', Sir George Grey can now cite Mr Morrin's offer. We oan hardly conceive that Mr Whitaker, who is himself largely interested m the Thames, and who has shown himself desirous of promoting the welfare of the people of that locality, will uegleeC thia opportunity of havi g ooatruoted one of the most useful railvrijß iv the C»lony— •» hue which wili realise, as uona else does, one of the great oljects sought to bo atuined by the Puuuo Works scheme— the opening up to settlement Of a large district of oouniry.V At Professor Hennikib's |.erf..r. 'm<tD««, -oil Tnursday mgut. m the Barrack R<iom, Hamilton, and a^ain lust ni.ht at Le Queane's Hall, there wa< a large and fashionable attenianc*, the entertainment appearing to grow m public favour the oftener it is produce «. With the exception of 1&9 a«i»l Biwpen?
sionand the Arabian boxtiick, there wuS an almost entire change of programme, and, doubtless, the distribution of gifts added somewhat to the general attraction. At various Btages of the performance both Madame^ Stella and the Profeasor were loudlyfcheered.. The legerdemain of the 1»W " 8O cleverly aud easily narformedjas almost to cause feeling of annoyance V the beholder at being uu. able to peroeVe even, the slightest trace of tha mapoef m which he is deceived. Last niguVthe advantaga of a pla form, a piano, and superior lighting was very marked m that parts of the performance, perhaps the more interesting, m which Ma.iurae Stella takes part. The effect. of the' aerial suspension waa greatly" improved, and the lady on emerging from the mesmeric trance and stepping down to terra via waa loudly ohrered i.y those present. The performance will take place again to-night at Le Queue's Hall for the last time m Hamilton. It is one, which m every respect we can henrti y recommend to young and old. On Mon day and Tuesday night, the enteruinment is announce'! tor Cambridge, an doubtlees, Alexandra and Te A.wa <ut i. where there are public halla, will u» visited during the week. Vaccination —We understand that « Nguruawahii there are a number of o'ni dron needing vaccination, but tint there is no vaccina 1 ing officer m thil districc t . whom to take tliem. For tha parents t<> take them to the nearest vaccinating , officer (Cambridge,, we believe) would I" a serious expense, wni h mam could not <«ffjrd. The JovernmenL coul easily, ut small expanse appoint 50.0.---intplligenc person to perfor.u the operation. All that is needed is a supply ot lymph, as it doe 3 not require m'dical ak'ui to u*e it. Tue diatriot aohojlm ist^rs, w* should say, would be juacthe very person: to appoint &i voociuatora.
