The Government have prepared a series of law bills, which are certain to come to grief in their infancy. One of the measures provides that all judges of the Native Lands Court shall have equal power with the Siipreme Court, except in two instances treason and capital offences. A considerable portion of the business of the' Supreme Court is to be removed to the District Court, and its judges are empowered to have all the powers of the superior Court in districts where no circuit sitting takes place, and to hear and • determine civil cases where the amount involved does not exceed £SOO.
