Pilot ira black dog, and was owned by Mr Weber. -He was pupped on the 12th September, 1875, and is by Parting Star oat ;of Florence. la the Grant and Polworth Derby h e beat Mr W X Thomson's celebrated dog Stanhope, by Prefet oat of Patti. June 7. Sir William Jervoia's report approves generally of fhe present outer fortifications, and recoiainends the use of torpedoes at Syd nay, Newcastle, and : Botany Bay, and ironclads for the defence of the coast, and against bombardment. He thinks, m the event of England being engaged m hostilities, there is little probability -of an enemy's vessels making a descent on the colonies. •
