WHATAWHATA.

May 22. After nraoh agitation, we are to have a Saturday mail, A meeting will be held onthe24tb, at the Whatawhata Hotel, to consider the advisability of having an additional mail, to arrive at Ngaruawahia on Saturday, and the beat means of oarrying it. The latter is the most important part of the subject, as the postal authorities will make up a mail in Auckland on Friday, and in Ngaruawabia on Saturday, but, will not carry it to Wbatawhata. This will have to be done at present by the settlers, each one taking his turn. It \», however, a Btep in the light direction, and probably by the time the next mail contracts ate issued, this service will be added to the existing one. In a recent issue of the Times a letter appears from Captain Campbell, written, *as he says, in the interest of troth, but, in this case, he strains at a gnat. The mistake ib, that my letter, to which he refers, should have been dated the 10th, instead of 17th May. The circumstanoes, as described, are quite correct, and are easily proved, as the Constable and several of our settlers were at the landing when the steamer Lillie passed. It was not with ary desre to injure ths trade of that steamer, but, to prevent the repetition of such cool treatment, that , mention wasiaad? of it. In faot, it is in this manner that Wfcatawbata interests have always been served. Our roads are the worst in the Waikato, and, as f«r as appearances go, roads that are yet unformed in other parts, will be iracadamized before oars are taken in hand. Even in mail matters, we have been three days behind Alexandra ; but, if the steamer Lillie, ' or any other steamer passes Whatawhata without stopping for passengers that are waiting, they will be made to know of it,— OWH Gobbes
