THAMES - WAIKATO EAIL. WAY.
The survey of the lino for the proposed railway to connect Waikato with Grahamstown and the Thames districts may be now said to have been fairly commenced. "Mr. Carr and his assistants \ arrived yesterday in Hamilton and have formed camp in one of Mr. Claude's paddocks, on the east side the river. It is intended, we understand, that the line shall cross the river a little lower down than the point opposite the immigrants' cottages on the west side, where there is a Government reserve. Now, this is the spot on which the station should be placed. If.it is really intended to do something more than survey the line, and if the means are available
opportunity for remedying a defect in the Auckland and Puriiu line which otherwise cannot but be very detrimental to the interests' of so important a township as that of Hamilton— .namely, the disconnect txorx of the railway % w v ith- the town. The spot set apart for pfce Hamilton station will bo most^incon^enient for both passengers v <and, goods' traffic ; but when the Thames line junctions with the Auckland and Puniu, a railway-station on the west .side the river on the GoYernmgnt reserve above-mentioned will ansVfer the requirements of both railways in common for Hamilton, practically bringing tho Auckland line, now a mile and a-half away, up to the very township.
