THE STEAMER LILLIE.

Sir,— The remarks pi your Whatawhata correspondent, in this morning's issue, require contradiction, in the interests of trutb, and also because they/do me injustice, and are calculated ' to injure the interests of the steamer Lillie. In the first place, the Lillie was not up the Waipaonthe Wednesday:; in, fact, not at all in the week he mentions, being prevented by accident to her machinery. I was up on Friday.- in the Alert (Captain Dean), Supercargo of my own gooda. In the next place, it : ia untrue that Mrs Snack en burg, or anyone' 'else requested me to stop at Whatawha'ta on return of boat. I invariably stop when hailed, either from the banks or the, stations on the rivers. For' the Rev ,Mr and Mrs Snackenburg, I have the highest re^Deot, , and the circumstances would be t very peouliar indeed, that would oblige me to put either of them to inconvenience. I would advise your correspondent to be more careful in taking notes, and, in his statements, to pay some regard to truth, however much he may dmire to injure. my trade.
