RAGLAN.
May 17. The schooner 'Echo' left early this morning for the Manukau with a cargo of pigs, &c. She also takes, a quantity of limestone in various sized pieces, one being nearly a ton weight. The limestone is shipped by Mr Buchanan of Auckland, who intends to polish up the stone, and thus ascertain its suitability for the purposes of his trade Should the experiment prove a success, he, it is said, will send workmen down here to get out the stone for shipment to Auckland for his own use, and for the market. From a small piece that was polished, it would appear that there is every ehance of the Raglan limestone at last being utilised. The schooner 'Kaiuma' having repaired damages, is just crossing the bar on her way to Kaipara. The skipper of this vessel should give our harbour and bar a good name. It is doubtful whether he would have succeeded in finding a secure haven over any other in such weather. The last two days have been almost like summer, a marked change from last week,— CORRESPONDENT.
