Equal and exact justice to all men; Of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political ' ' ' ' ' Here shall the Pres. the Pjgoplk's righ main tain, Unawed by influence and unbribed by gain.
Those who take an active interest in tbe successful carrying out of thenext Show to be held under the auspices of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association, must be up and doing, for they have no, time to lose.: To call a special meeting needs a requisition from not less than fifteen members of -'-the Association,, and it is desirable, that such requisition be sent in, '.Without' loss of time to the Secretary, so that the meeting may be held on the next Ohaupo sale day, which falls on the Bth of May. If we may judge from the feeling which exists between the advocates of an autumn meeting on the one side, or a spring meeting on the other, it seems to ua that victory to either party means defeat; to the Association, and that, as we recommended in our last, the compromise of holding two shows will be found tbe only satisfactory solution to the difficulty. No one, we think, will say that fcwo shows in the one year are not better than one, but many will add the proviso, If you can find the funds wherewith to carry them out. This, we are aware, is the chief difficulty, but it is not an insuperable one. Surely as large a sum can be raised this year as last, and'that, it would seem, was ,£35 more than actually expended. Thus, i_ the same amount be raised, the committee would have in hand for the second show :he present balance in hand of £3s 45., and another ora similar amount, or say £70 ; add to this the gate money aud entrance fees of the second show, at similar rates to those collected last year — say £17 12s. and £U 12s. 6d. respectively — and the committee have a total of about £102 to count upon to meet the cost of the autumn show. \ At any rate, it will be a great mistake if no spring show : will be held. Waikato sheep and Waikato wool are main staples of the district, and the eyes of Southern men will naturally be directed to see what we can produce ia both classes. It is to our interest to stand well in this respect. No district in the colony can better do so, and it will be a suicidal policy to prevent our flockmasters from showing what the district can produce, and that, too, not merely in pure bred but in mixed sheep. Aswehave said, there is not much time to lose if a show is to be held. The matter has to be settled and there is no disguising the fact that .two shows will impose a good deal of work upon the
more active members of the Association in collecting general subscriptions and enrolling members, The show also, to be a success, must be held earlier than last year. Some sheep, if we recollect .rightly, were kept back by their owners because they had been already shorn, and those which were : shown should have been in the hands of the shearer at least a fortnight earlier. Besides, as we have said before, the district, by holding the show thus unecessarily late, acquired a reputation with some which it did. not de-, servj, of being behind eveh Napier" in climate,. w;hich district held its. show full three weeks earlier.
