M.ijor Atkinson, Premiei 1 , "writes to the ' NewZealand Times N a letter, apparently a copy of one written to the Agent-General in reference to certain JNew Zealand statistics published in Westgarth's Circular of January, 1877. He first points out that the circular publishes the amount of the New Zealand revenues for 1873-4 instead of that for 1876. The table in Wesfcgarth's Circular made out that the revenue oi New Zealand for 1875 was £1,677,626, while that of Victoria was £4,236,423. The Premier, quoting from New Zealand statistics, siiows that the receipts in New Zealand for 1875 amounted to £2,841,953 (instead of only .£1,677,626), as compared with the £4,236,423 received in Victoria. He also points out that although there was a note in the circular stating that the amounts givon as New Zealand revenue was ex-provin-cial revenues; still there was an error of £30,000. He requests the AgentGeneral to make a personal explanation to Mr West.garth, and gee him to rectify the error pointed out, and also inform him that he cau obtain all statistics of the colony, and information relating to its progress, at the Agent - General's office. The Premier appends to the letter a tabulated statement of all sources of j revenue of Victoria and New Zealand for 1875. The totals are :

There was no new evidence for the ; prosecution. Mr Garrick, wlio appeared as counsel for defendants^ ;ried hard to get the case dismissed, ' in order jthat the latter could give evidence for Pooley, and the Judge agreed * there was not a particle of .evidence to connect Bramhall with £ooley oh the night the damage was done, but after a lengthy argument, 'hegrarited the request of the Crown Prosecutor, that the case against -Bpamfhall should be allowed to go to the jury. Several witnesses were called for the defence, to show that Pooley : and Bramhall when, seen in the passage of Warner's Hotel, near iDpnkin's bedroom, just prior to the damages being discovered, might easily have been mistaken for other 'members of the Euglish cricket team, as, for instance, Selby, Greenwood, or Armitage. One witness atso^tated that at the time of the row about the bet he heard Ulyett say, '"We are all in it." Selby said " We will have it out ot you before tnoruing." The Judge summed up at "great" length. The jury retired, and after an absence of half anhour, returned a verdict of "not The Board of Governors of the Canterbury College have decided to ad.verrise for a lady principal for the * girls'" schools, salary £450 per year, •anjcl .house and 5s for each pupil. -Also to a'ak the Government for an eti'dowinent of 5;000 acres of agricultural • land for the school.
