THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY TO THE HELM!

Sib, — A few weeks ago I read in the "Saturday Hi«ht" an iccount of the great Amsterdam canal, in which it stated that a plant called " Helm" was planted along the sides to prevent the wash from injuring the banks. If the Acoliraatisition Society could introduce it into this district for planting along our navigable rivers, ib would confer a lasting benefit to those who have laud on the river bank, and the steamboat travelling public. As it ia patent to every one some steps must be taken to prevent if possible the further encroachment of the river. — I am, &o, ■ . Hblm. Waikato, 9th April.
