THE HAMILTON FERRY.
ROADS IN WAIKATO.
DEPUTATION TO THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL.
We learn, from the Auckland ( Herald,' of yesterday, that on Thursday the Chairman and a councillor of the Waikito County Council waited upon the AttorneyGeneral, and had a conversation with him relative to the maintenance of several roads m the County. They also wished to know whether ov not they could compel the Waipa County Council to pay over to the Waikato County Council half the dues charged on the Hamilton ferry. The Hon. Mr Whitaker thought they were fairly entitled to half the ferry,, dues, but he could not give a decisive answer until he knew whether or not the Waipa County Council intended to work the Act m its entirety. The deputationists then wished for some information regarding the maintenance of the main Waikato Road. This road— the great artery of commerca to the country settlers South of Auckland — was used by the residents m other Counties than that of Waikato, and they desired to be informed if those other Counties could not be made to jpay a fair proportion of tbe cosfc of keeping it m repair. Mr Whitaker said he could not fceli ; he knew of no Act compelling them to contribute. After some farther conversation the deputation thanked the lion gentleman and withdrew.
