(From a Corre<pondenfc.) Tuesday last was a very busy day m the township, partly owing ;to the election for a County Councillor baking place (re. suiting as you are already aware m the return of Mr FitzPatrick, by a large majority), and partly owing to the fact that the Presbyterians had organised a soiree and ooncort m aid of the building, fund of their new church. The tea wag laid out m a manner ..fit- to tempt the mo3t fastidious on several tables by a number of ladies whose names I regret I cannot give yoa, and every onejwho was present seemed perfectly happy and contented after tea, which is abpufc tie be3t sign of the success attandin*the efforts of the Committee. The Orpheus Glee Club s^ng a number of glees m excellent style, and gave us a. treat nob often obtaina *Ie m this part of the world* Several songs with ohorus attached, too/were splendidly rendered, aa also were the solos j m fact, the whole were perfectly enjoyable. A meed of praise, too, ia due to the gentleman who accompanied the various sqngs, &c., ia a most masterly npnuer, and also to the gentleman who gave twocQmio readings from Hans Breibmann's Ballads, and sang a comic song. Two pieces, piano and violin, deserve special mention, th-3 execution being very good, though the violin itself was not one of the best we have heard. There were about 150 people present, aud the whole affair was an immense succes?.
