1 NGARUAWAHIA CO V CAMBRIDGE C 0. Ox Saturday, the 17th inst, a mntch wns played at Hamilton between elevens of the above-named clubs, on the Zingari ground which had been lent for th<occasion. A very good wicket had been prepared by the Hun Sco of the Zingari, and the weather was magnificent, As will be seen below, the Cambridge men got a very bad beating, which must be accounted for by the fact that At least five of their beat players could not show up, and they had to put m anyone they could find to make up the team. The bowling of the CCC was very weak indeed, A Stubbings being the only exception, and he bowled all through the long innings of the HOC with great patience, and very fair success, getting 6 wickets for 55 runs with 127 balls. Th« uaderhands of Tanner at the other end were not good enough for such batsmen as Lynch and Taylor, who plajed g tod cricket all r>>und for 61 and 37 respectively, whilst ltickett put 17 together m a very f-w minutes by dint of hiding at everything that came across him. These were the only double flgureg on the N 0 C side ; J Edgecuinbe gettihg 9 by careful play, whilst ail the ot hers managed to score, not a aingle duos beii g credited to their side. Out of a score of 171 only 5 were byes, which speaks well for t le longstopping of Sickle, for 0 mbrd,'e, and the toial nnmber of extras wore just 14. not at all a large number. For J m ridge Mclntosh got top soore (6 and 8), batting

both innings with very groat patience, and m the field he wag a host m him -elf, missing not half a ohanco at point and being all over the fibld when required — m fact, had it not beeu for him nnd •he fle:ding of F Stubbings at longotf and long-leg things would have been worse than they were. Finher, too, had a lot of work m the long 6eld, and did it well, his tnrowing m heing exclleWt, and Tanner worked very hard indeed even though hiif bowliug was not sriceessful. For his score of 61 Lynch played cricket, and gave no chanc<j uutil tha umpirw gaveoutleg befoienisket, and bad the rnniiing been hard he would probably nave made over 70 Tayjorgavethe easiest of easy changes to leg when he had scored about 15, but lerf could not see it, and 37-was the result before Stubbings clean bowled him. When the return comes off Cambridge will be much stronger, and a better game may be looked for. At the conclusion of the play three cheers were given for the losars and wiuners, and alao three for the Zingari for the use of the ground. - The following are the scores : — . n. c. a H H Taylor, b StubbiDs .;. ... 37 J Kdgecombe, 0 B= ubbins, b Tanner ... 9 Lynch, Ibw lanner 61 WUUmghby, bStabbings Z '.]'. 5 Huat, b Tauner .?. ... 3 Eiqketta, c Mclntoah, b Stubbius 17 Orombio, c Mclotosh, b Stubbinjs ... 8 Hedger, b Stubbins 4 Barton, 0 McLqoah, b Stubbings '.'.! 4 JS;cholls, b Tanner ... ... 6 Soper, not out ...
