Equal ami exact justice to all men, Ot whatever scuta ;br norsuasiou, religbus or political - '•.-.' v # # '.'#;■"■ # : # Here sliaU the Pres-j the Peoi'Le'.s right maintain, . ITriaxved by influence and unbribed by gain.;

Januaky has passed and gone/ and we are close on to the lust day of February, and as yet but a single application to be placed on' the electoral roll of either the "Waipa or Waikato electoral district has been sent, in to the .Registration. Officer. This fact bears testimony to one of

two things, either that the generality of unregistered voters care very little for the privilege of the franchise, or that human nature in the Four Counties is more than'usually prone to procrastination. Grie thing

is very certain, that if these persons let the month of March, slip by as they have done that of January and the present onw, they will find themselves political April, fools on the first day of that month. ; Last.year but little was done to purge the electoral rolls of. the above mentioned districts, as it was thought bh.it the Revising Officer would have taken the matter in hand. He did not do so, and many names consequently remained upon it; against which objections could have beenraised, either as those of persons not beiug entitled to vote at all, or whose qualifications for doing so were incorrectly stated. We speak authoritatively when we say,. that the rolls will bo carefully gone over ohis year, and every claim where the qualification is incorrectly stated will be challenged. Now this will affect a great many more people than are aware of it. Change of residence, for though into a house next door, will disqualify, for the qualification stated in last years roll no longer exists. There are many too, who, knowing that it is necessary to re-register, may be relying on the action of local boards, but they must remember that the lists of ratepayers now are framed under the Rating Act of 1870, and that the occupier of property whose tenure is less than a naif-yearly one, is ununown to the valuator, and the name of the owner alone appears upon the rate books. There are many who.overstayed the three months last years, and sutvly one would have thought these would have learned wisdom by experience, but as we have Said, only one claim to register has been as yet sent in.
