We have lately- received an addi'Ln to our sinull population, in the person A he Hooper and family, so th:.t we have at last, whit we have, been wishing for, a ruauV doctor has had several cases ah eady, Mrs Hooper has est ;b!isl:od >a ■: school, which is fairly attended. Ami had we a proper building, instead of u private room as at present, there would, no Ucubt, bo a larger number of chirurcn atlcml. it is not .often that a district- gets a teacher beforea schoblhou&e,so that 'wo ought to hit oufi in that direction,
All the hay, ami other crops, am almost taken in, but the late wet weatlnr has caused a deal of extta labour a'nd anxiety. F.ougliß are going on all sides for the autumn grass, aud preparing the land for winter ciops. VV hether wheatgrowing will p>y in WhalawLata is' dkely to be praclisally tes ed. One settler, AJj Shepherd, is' putting in j fifty .aci'o's, an.. several others are going to sow coiisi'-ei-able areas. All tins looks like progress, and it is to be hoped that Whutuwham will yet take its place as a- producing district, and turn the tide of traffic which, so far, lias 'nearly all 1 been one way (imports).--OoKREbPbtfKJSNT, '
