' The Alexandba correspondent of the " Herald," we see, attempts to dispute the accuracy of our telegrams respecting the exclusion of the pakehas, Morgan aud Lanauze, from the King territory. The facts as given by us were, neveitheless, correct, except, that Morgan e't on being ordered to do so, without tendering fuither compulsion necessary, Mr Kennedy Hill will hold an im portant sale of well-bred horses, to-mor-row, at Gwyne'B Hotel, Hamilton West, comprising thoroughbred racers, hacks, carriage ponies and draught stock,. Also a quantity of sadlery and some two tens of ■flour. On Wbdnesdat night and Thursday morning the river was steadily riding with the flow of water occasioned by the rains : up country. I<» reached a height of five feet and then began as steadily to full, .though probably it may be some days,- if even fine weather set m before the Waikato reaches its level of a woek ago. It WILL be seen that m very many of the valuation notices issued by the local Boards the place where the assessment court is to be held is not montioued. Thb' OOBBEOr OABD 05 THE BACES.— We have sics of our own enough to answer for without having' those of other people fathered upon us. The correct card of the races is saii to have been so only m name. Islesman was omitted f.om the Handicap Hurdle race^ the weight, carried by Tommy Dodd was different, to that stated ; the pony race was omi t;d altogether ; t c entranca mone,. of the Maori race w s made pounds where it should have b°- " shillings, and the p-inte wia blam.df r these errors, and moat loudly by tbos> most actually to b.ame. But the fault did not lay ,
with this . office. The cards as issued by ua are faithfully printed frqm . .the copy furnished. The printer has no option thau to follow his copy. "He has no right even to use^his own discretion, us what might appear to him to bs mistakes might be intentional alterations, Yesterday's cards may have been all that was said of thorn, probably they wer.e, but the fault is not ours. The Hamilton Wbbt Cojs c but. — There was a large attendance last night at the new Schoolhouse, Hamilton West, on l ho occasion of the entertainment given m aid of the funds of the School building Committee. There must "hare been, we should imagine, nearly ISO. persons present. Toe performance also was a suceesß, the several songs, instrumental pieses and readings being given very nicely. 1 "' w We Cannot however., omit to mention *6s specially "deserving ' of notice, the services rendered by a lady amateur at present on a visit to Hamilton from line Thames, Mrs Kilgour, whose licli soprano voice, cultivated style, and dear and distinct articulation m the beautiful song of" The blind g'rl to her Harp" fairly took the audience by storm. More than once during the delivery of her song this lady was interrupted by the general bursts of applause, and at the close was again and again called on for a repeat. The programme, with one or two exceptions, was faithfully carried out, an I we may congratulate the School Committee on the financial success of the undertaking.
