AN ACTOR'S JOKE.

Asr amusing scene occurred on the occasion of Mr* Sothern's last appearance m Boston a few weeks ago. The piece, was "A Hornet's isTeat," and it ran. smoothly up to the last act ; when as Mr. Sothern was speaking 'the tag, having reached the words "We'^e not flown high— aur aim is not ambitiousA.merry trifle, not too meretricious—" ;he. was suddenly interrupted by a young m^n m one of the proscenium boxes, who rose to his, feet, and, snouted that he considered the , play; exceedingly meretricious. The audience biased, and at the same time the friends of the uninvited orator endeavoured to repress him by pulling at hia coat-tails from the recesses of the box, but he yelled wildly to them to 'let him alone,' and insisted on speaking. , ■ , . ■ • < ■ ■ ; >-:.: Mr Sothern then reqaated the audience' to let the young man have his say; Whereupon he shouted, 'Mr Sothern i have come all the; .way from Providence with my friends torattend your benefit) and now I want to know about this play— l can't make it out. y H . •'■'• 'Well, buV.we can't play it all over -again, said Mr Sothern, at which there was a burst of laughter. i ;; ; •-
