ALL-ENGLAND ELEVEN V. TWENTY-TWO OF AUCKLAND DISTRICT.
Puoley, the wicket-keeper of the Englishmen, took the vacant wioket, and commenced m a very lively manner — oatiing B onett for 1, and slipping Buckland for 1 and 2. He was thea well takea at the wjoketsj by Dufaur, making the fourth .wioket to Bennett ; 162—6—4. Armhage had a very short life— being stumptd tirst ball. Lilly while, the captain of the red, white, and blue, appeared amidst some dapping of band?, but after scoring a couple of single?, was caught by Lankham m th« slips : 169—8-2 Allan Hill succeeded, and commenced by sn'ckering Buokland for 2, and driving Bennett for the same number. A few singles and a three by Selby brought 180 up, which Hill commemorated by driving Bennett far and high for 3. Several maidens followed, until Selby broke the list with a 4 to leg, which had the effect of bringing Robinson on m Bennett's place. For several overs, nothing was done, both batsmen playing steadily and patiently. A single now and then, and finally a drive by 1- i I for 3, brought up 200 ; and a lit le lucky play, including a couple cf threes and a wide, soon added 10 more to the score. Buckland bowled well, and kej.t down the runs, though without any luck as regards getting wickets ; but still the two men stuck to their posts, gradually increasing the score by a poke heie and a snick there, till when Hill, after a stubborn innings, was caught by Dufaur, off Lynch, who had gone ori at the north m1 : 222—9—26. Southerton, the last nan, skied his first bi.ll for two, and the ituraps were drawD, Selby having made L3 m a faultless and patietit style. So far as the match has gone, it looks .s if we have all our work cut out to save ollowing on, but we hope for tke honour f the provinoe that our men will manage o make the requisite 120 or 130 runs, 'he last wioket ought to fall quickly, and ben the Twenty-two must set to work rork to ret reive their laurels. The following are the complete scores, he bowling analysis, of course, is not lade Jap, aB the innings is incomplete i —
