TE AWAMUTU.
Jan 15th, 1877. I send you an account of a pionio given by the Bey Mr Brady to the members of 8t John's and Sf Saviour's ohoirs, and the children of Rangawahia and Te Awamutu Sunday Schools, at big own residence. The children About 50 m number arrived on the ground at 12 o'clooly where swings, rounders, and other games were provided. Those who have not had an opportunity of visiting these grounds have no idea •of the tasteful manner m which they are laid out. In the flower garden some oi the choisest flowers m the distriot ai« -to be found, and m the orchard, I may .safely say you will find the largest cherry, almond, and plum trees &a, m the province. In the flower garden there are •some very large' English holly trees and one fine tall maje-tic Momosa under the shade of whose branches the tables * were spread which were loaded with every delicacy to the demolition of which both children and adults vigorously applied themselves. Many thanks are due to the Rev Mr "Brady for the . excellent way everything connected with the pionio was managed, the children enjoyed themselves thoroughly .and at the olose of the day gave three hearty cheers for their host. •.';••* THB CONCERT Tddfe- place m the Te Awamutu BXrtrtnd, I must say, as far as fbftos and musio are conoeraed, w« ■ -acknowledged by all present to have been the best ever given m the Waikato. Miss Mandeno presided at the pian*, to which great oredit and thanks are due lor the efficient manner m which that lady play«d the accompanyments of the several pieoes. The first on the pro* .gramme was the chorus, " See our Oars with Feathered Spray," by the whole -company; followed by a song, "I'm Still a Friend to You," by Mr Vincent. This gentleman has a splendid barytone Toioe, which was worth bearing ; duett, ■" Far Away," by Messrs H Culpan and H Brunton, which was sung with great -taste, and was well applauded. Glees, 41 Two Roses," "Evening," " Ah, Tell Me Not," "From Opheus Glees," by Mr and Mrs Culpan, Messrs Vincent •and Hedgeoook, which was a treat to •every musical ear. The parts were well balanced, and sung with great effect* •Chorus, "Red Oroaa Knight," by fche company. Then came a very beautiful piece, Son and chorus, "Where is my Boy To-nfght ;" by-Mr Hedgecook, which •wai well sung. The Duet, "Hunting Tower ;" by Mr and Mrs J G Culpan, was loudly npplauded, an encore was obtained, when the "Gipsy Countess" was equally well rendered. The chorus "Here, m Cool Grot," by 'the company, calls for bo special remarks. ?Sonp, " Wrecked and Saved," by Mr. J. <G. Culpan, was cleverly rend- red. The audience would not bs pat off without an 'encore, when" "The Gallants of England " <was splendidly rendered by the same gentleman. A duet, " Home to our Mountains," by Mrs J G Culpan and MrWrig'H, followed, which was sung with •great effect. Chorus, "I/ighfcly Tread, '^ *by the company ; "Sleep on Dearest," rsnusj and chorus, 'by Mr Wright, showed <tfi tlriß gentleman's splendid alto voice. •"USome Back to Erin," by Mra J G Oulipan, was sune *it!h great taste ; a duet, «' Larboard Watch," by Mr J G Culpan *and Mr Wright, was also much applauded, and the whole concluded with •" Gofl Save the QneeV sung by fie comtpany. The Rev Mr Brady moved •» vote •of thanks for the music il troat afforded ■them that, evening by Mrani Mrs Cul* man and the gentlemen who came from Hamilton.
