A Jjersev Cray 'clergyman wa_ called upon at midnight to visit a certain fashionable mansion and marry a couple. There were urgent reasons forhasefc, and he consented to tie the knot. Upon arriving at'the designated house he witnessed a strange sight. A man well dressed sat m an arm- chair, tied to it with ropes, and guarded by fcwo men. " This was the expectant bridegroom. In the back parlor, lying upon a bed, was a young woman, evidently ill and surrounded by relatives. The story was quickly told. Tho young woman was shortly to become a mother, and the man m the chair was her seducer under promise of marriage. Once he had consented to the ceremony and decamped. He had been tracked and brought back. This time he had been actually placed m bonds until he consented to marry the girl at once. The ropes were removed and the seducer himself asked the clergyman to perform the ceremony, The latter hesitated and desired to consult a friend. An hour passed, during which the minister retired, and once the young man sought to leavo the house. He was forced back with a revolver. The minister returned with a city Magistrate, and, the perfect; freedom of the young man being assured, he again assented to the marriage, Tho magistrate wedded the pair and left. The sequel is pleasant. The marriage led to reconciliation, and the parties are living as happily m that city as if nothing awkward had ever occurred.
