Sir, —^The action of Mr Qeo. Clark in bringing forward a motion at the la^t meeting of the Cambridge Farmers' Club for holding acattle show at Cambridge next year, has, .as H expeotad it would do, called forth an expression of opinion from one outside the district. For this opinion, I thank Mr Mandeno.
That Mr Clark, in bringing forward thiamotion, wag, and is aotuated by the best and hightfit motives, I do not for a moment doubt, but I quite agree with Mr Mandeoo, ''That it does seem to have come very inopportune.just now." As I s^id, in speaking uppn the subject, at the meeting of theC-tib, Mr Ciark set ma altogether to ignore the existence of a Society which, after a great deal of troub'e has bean started 'for the purpose of getting up an Annual Show for the whole of the Waikato district, and thinks that, because the Show held by -that Association, at Ohaupo, a month ago, was not so successful as it might, and ought to have been, * that therefore no effort should in $tture be made to get up another, but rather-that =the Association should be buried at once and : for ever, and that each local district should iu future get up its -own show. In th s opinioD, I must beg to differ from Mr Clarke, and think that dt would have been far "better policy on his part to have brought -forward «ome scheme by which the next show of the Association might have been made more successful than ibe last one was. For my part, lam still of tho opinion that there is a great deal more success to be looked forward to in the futum by doing all we can to support the Übiteji ShoWi than by each district holding its 6wn show, merely -oonGnedto its own locality. If Mr Clark ha.dr.waited until the Annual Meeting of the AgsociatiouX which will be held in March or April%ex(;, and had then and there coma forward some scheme for makiog future sliows of the society more of a success, either by changing the place of holding ih^uT, or by any otlier mtans, I should have heartily supported him in any such measure, but, uuli'ssl alter my opinion very considerably, : l shall certainly oppose any show being held at Cambridge, if it will interfere with the Annuil Show of the Association, and how any local could be held iu any park of the Waikato during the same month and not do fo, I cannot see. I hope, therefore, Mr i -lark will allow his motion to stand over for another year, and thus give the Association another opportunity of proving whether it ia capable of getting up anything like a show or not. If not, then let Mr^Clark goin for having one at Cambridge, under the auspices of the Club, and be will find no one to support' him more heartily than Heney Buttlb. Te Bapa, Dec. 30, 1876.
