A RECORD OF SPORT. Compiled expressly for the Waikato Times.
Aucxlam> Not. 30. A pood deal of interest is being felt in the approaching race meeting. The weight! for the Auckland Cup and the JockejOlub Handicap, haTe been published, and, will, I think, give verj general satisfaction. As the acceptance! are due to-morrow, it will be bent to leare any special comments till these ore known. According to prosent rumours, we shall hare at least half a dozen horses up from the south. It is said Kay will bring three, most probably Middleton, Danbury, and Tommy Dodd. Delamwn is likely to come with Elfin King snd Tetupleton, while Kedwooi will, I am told, let Bongster go for the Derby. It is not likely G-uy Fawkei or Maroro will put in an appearance aa they hare raluable engagements in the Wellmgtea Cup, and the Dunedin Cup, and are to be specially kept for them. The nominati >ns for the steeplechase are due at the same time as the acceptances for the handicaps. I should mention that Bob Kay bought Middleton of Mr Webt> for £500 after his rictory in the MetroI oliton Handicap at Chnetchurch. Aft er the racing a number of animals were offered for sale at the Cbristchuroh Tattersals, but only few of them reached the reserves. Mr .Redwood sold two, namely Lady of the Lake to Mr Gillingham for £105 and Amohia, last year's Dunedin Cup impostor, to Mr Stead for £204 15 3 . Songster was offered, but was passed in at £315. Kay put up Marilla a Traducer filly, and oh, Tommy Dodd, but did not find a purchaser at his prices. It teems the Fanny Fisher colt went wrong in almost his last gallop before the Derby when he strained a muscle insid* the thigh. A good authority who was on the spot informs me that he could not hare lost if he had kept well, as he bad bw»n tried a better hor.e than Danebury He i 9i 9 completely tucked up now, and Walter's on , chance of t £ hiffl .£ , racing condition i§ s to ™ rest of three or four -v, onfh , t» *u« Auckland Derby there "e^* 1 " J h f eighteen entered still olive ana ,?,. h# and among them are the following ™ 8 ' terbui-y performer*, So»gster, Wrangle," Danebury, Middle*'"* Tittnia and finny

Thu it qute good enough if troe but you Be % c • can tell. The acceptance, are to be de.l»red on the 13th January w that the owner, have lot. of time to think it over The Auckland Cricketer, returned highly delighted with their Waikato wit, and apeak of their reception a. having been royal. It U awfully plucky of the Zingari boya to play » g«»>eral Auckland team, and I consider they made a very good .how. Mr Yates who waa in the Auckland eleven u one of the All-England election committee, and 1 underhand he ha. r. commended that at least three of the Ziugari team be written to, a.king them to be in readiness , to play again.t the Engh.h Eleven, if | required. I may add that the twenty t*o will not be absolutely selected for a month jet, but about fiva-and- thirty will receive the lime kind of notice. wh eh ato to be sent to your tepresentatnes. The collector, are getting in fund, in a very aatiafactory manner. Two of them have already over 100 on their lists, and there will be no diJbonlty whatever in getting the required £200. Our Regatta Committee are very indignant at the Engli.h cricket match being fixed for their particular dny. Mr » Jnckapn, inn, one of our cricketer., came up frVm Canterbury a few day. ago, and he nforme me we are certain to see a Canterbury team up here at Christmas. Air Zfeilcon, a joung gentleman who was here with the Chri^tohurch football player?, has undertaken to get the men toiether, nnd has already got definite promises frcm eight or nine good payers, 'ihe Southerner, may expect a hearty welcome when they arrive, *nd if they don't get a thrashing it will not be for luck of desire on our part. It will be a pity if the regatta and the cricket match clabh, for it will ipoil both. Our crack yacht, the ' Secret,' is going to try her luck at the Southern regattas this year. She i. owned by four gentlemen of Auckland, and as may be supposed, there was considerable difficulty in bringing them a1 to one mind on the subject. 1 believe one of the proprietors hus insisted on the value of his share being paid down be'ore ihe leaves The owner, who was most •et on (ending her, was Mr T Niccol, her builder. Of course, if she winß ri;ht through, it will be a opi'al advertisement for him. "VVith ordinary good forture, it is my opinion she will tuis, for u a splendid boat, and goes to winrlward better th»n anything we >uiw*> J ere, and, 1 believe, belter thnn any yncht in the colony. She go*, to Lyttelii>n firM, thrnre to Nelson, andtheuce to "Wellington. Ibe fixtuiei are for the Ist January. )7th January, nnd 26th January, so that she will be able to do the lot ricely. We shall miss her in our own regatta, but the worst part of the business is thai, if .he makes a favourable impiesBion down South, it U quite likely Mr 2sii-co) may be tempted to part with her. The Pigeon Shooting Handicap i» at ti noting considerable attention, and the work of the bandicapprr* is anxiously expected. Every effort will be made to bring off the match in a satisfactory manner. In my last letter 1 notice it was Binted the match was coming off on the 27th Foven ber, of cour<e, what was meant, wns 27tb December.— Vat fcS.
