'— Mr Rice ■econded the motion. —Mr Boardm*n moved an amendment, aa to make the first resolution read a« fellows •— • That m the opinion of this Synod it would b» desirable for the Church in New Zealand to have in general use a bjmn book of its own authorised by the General Synod.' -The Rev Mr Hall seconded the amendment.—Mr Cadman moved, aud Mr Djonin seconded, the Synod going into committee. The motion was carried, aud Colonel Hanltam took tbe ciiair. In committee, many members apoke the opponents to the resolutions appearing to fear that an attempt was being made to intert • the thin end of the wedge 1 innoration. The dincusuion was a most animated one, aod more than once merged upon ritualism. At the oonelusion, Mr Boardman withdrew his amendment, as he said he felt certain tl c resolution of Mr Dudley would be negatived—On the qne.tion being put, the Chairman declared the motion lost — Upon Mr Dudley moricg hia aeoo'nd resolution, Mr H Kisslmg, to shelve the resolution, mored • That the ohairman leave the oha r'. The Amendment was negatived -The Bishop then informed the Synod that it might aave time for bim to sUte that he would give hi? vtto at on c to auy resolution that involved tbe principle that there should be no Church Hymnal for the province of Auckland He would propose that they should ask the Geueral Synod to do what was required. If the General Synod declined, then fet the Diooeaan Synod draw up an appendix for themselves. —Mr Dudley then moved his second resolution— Archdeacon Maunaell proposed to add to the resolution the follnwing woid»: *«nd in the event of their failing at their next se«non to provide auch eulargsment and improve, meut thie Syuod would respectfully urge them to terminate the copyright of the preaent Hymnal* which waa agree I to. —Mr Dudley's third reaolntion was then moved.— Mr VV H Ki.aling moved the substitution of 5 for 3 in the r solution. The amendment was carried TlifS^tolution ai amende d was about to bt pnt, when Mr Cadoun moved 'That the chairman do leave the chair.' This motion was negatived on the voices. The amended resolution was then carried on the voices, and the Chairman reported it to the Synod.— Mr Dudley and Mr Rice moved. "That the reao'ution be accepted by the Synod.' This was carried oa the voices. Eventually the Revs. Archdeaoon Maunsell, Nelson, Hassard, and Purchas, and Mesars Pierce, Rice, Hesketh Bjardman, and Colonel Hamtain were appmted a committee to prepare and print a supplement to the present Hymnal, suoh supplement to consist of not more than 150 new Hymns from the Ujmoi ancient and modern.
