ALEXANDRA.
I hinpfn in gpneral have been vtry dull here for aooie time past. All the political exoitement appears to have died oat, tho once strong* st supporters of the Provincial Party being apparently couviace 1 of the hollow net-8 of the idol thf>y had get up to worship. Their disappoint-
m( nt must \ p great, in \ aving anfcicif »ted nucii crrat things from ita leader, ami all h a < (Torts having pioved suoh mii<"rablo fa lur >s. 1 hare is, of course. » good de4l • f d s°%tn faction w th our Mi mk-r fop not having supported Mr Whitaker'a resolution in the Houie, which we ex.P'ered he wnnld have dono, but, we we thankful h-p has rot fo-g«tten our locd in eras a. ' Tue "f ot dfseato" has now a compVte 1 old on our comm<tui''y, and the fk»t '8 are goinu in on- Pablio Hall da Mid ni_;ht. Many of our ladies are alre.idy quite a: home on them. The v«ry wet weather wo have have had lately, had had the effect of rising tbe river S'lffbiently to enablo the natives from the fa- up «ettlement« to gtt tboir canoes down with their produce,' which they have roi been slow to take advantage of A large quantity of wheat and maize has been disposed of this last week to our storekeepers and others, and more is now repor!el on tho way down. Tftwhiao, with his party, ara still at the Kuiti, but, are expected daily to return to Hikuranj;i. Old Mauubiri is recovering slowly from his illness. Kopua is constantly inoreaeing in population. (.11 Takerei Te Jiiu'a p ople have arrived there, and are faming a settlement, as also a largo number of Ngatihaus. The new religion, of which, they are now bo enthusiastic, has had, at least, one good effect. A druoken native now is not to be fuind. A bottle of spirit* is very seldom parsed over the bar of cur public to a native. I have had many enquiries made to ma lately as to whether there is to be a Native Show in connection with, our Agricultural Show this year, as ma >y would wish to become exhibitors. Our Footballer* take exception to tho report of tbe match with them and the Te Awamutu Team. They deny that their opponents obtained a goal at all. — Own Correspondent.
