MEETING OF COMMITTEE OF WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of tbe above Committee was held at Obau.io on Tuesday last, after Mr Buekland's sale. There were preseut MeS3r» ilaudeno, See ; Day, Bjroa, Capt Jus Ruuciman, Mea rg t£ j-Juttle ; T iiiclrs, Hammond, White, Parker, Roche, and Me Minn. Capt Uunciinan was in tho eh lir t The minutes of tho pieviou< meeting haying been read, Mr lLinunond in>ved •c an amendment that the priz.-s for colt 3 and iilliea be adjudged in three cla*s-s, »iz : jearlurjs tv\o-ye+r-olds und three y<Mr>olds instead of giviug on<s prize for ilie best youngster, leaving the judge to make his own allowance lor diiFoicuce in nge. Carried. Mr .Byron also proposed as an atnrnd ment to the minutes that tbe puses for longwoollod rimi be discarded. This w-is also carried. The minutes with theue alteration* were then paised. "1 ho Chairman took tLo opinion of the Committee as to win ther all horses and bulls exhibited at the show be led. Mr Byron said ho liaJ a bull which was now four years old, and which he wished to exhibit. lie feared it would be difficult to 'ring' him now. He would however like to hate the question decided at once, to us to give persons in a like position to himself a chance to break in the animals to leading. The Committee were unanimously in favour of having the animals led, aud it was so docided. A very important discu?eion here took pluco as to the rea lye a-Wantagea of money prizes or oersificites ofnierir. Mr flicks and MrMandeno thoughtthat far more value would be attached, by prize-takers to a certificate which would last them all their lives, than to * small money prize, which would be lost sight of almott immediatel} . A pnza certificate, obtained by Mr C. Stouey, at the Remuera Show, in 1867, for the best shorthorn bull, was produced by one of the committee, as » sample, for the inspection of members. Captain ltunoiman said it was no use talking of jrizes, if they had not tbe funds to give good ones. lie suggested that members of the committee should hand m their lists of intending subscribers. 121 members were shown to ha\e joioed at £1 Is each. The Chairman said that the arrangements for the show would coßt, probably, at least £70. This would leave a very small m>rg>n for prizes, and, he thought | it would be better to give certificates, | and husband the reEources of the Society for next year. Mr liouhe proposed that th« l3t prizes should be inonoy, not to exceed £3, and the 2od and 3rd should consist of certilicites. After considerable dincussion— Mr Byron moved — "That the whole question should be relegated to a future meeting, until further da! a, mto tue expenses of the show, number of subsuribers, &c, should be moie definitely ascertained. Mr Hammond seconded, and tho resolution was carried. Mr Byron also suggested that the opinion of the rubecribers in the different districts, on the Bubject, bo ascertained. He thought that it would be belter to strengthen tho mouetary position of the Club by giving only ciTtiiicatei this year, aud h«viafi[ money in hind to ouilu peimaneut »how-yards, giwnp god pr.zes on the next occosiou, and that, he believed, would be found to bd the general opinion. Some discussion then ensued as to the possibility of holding the Show at tbe racecourse instead of at Olmupo. It was con tended that money could in tho former place be obtained for gules, sale of booths, <see, whith would go far towards tho exppnse of erecting yards. Mr Buttle »aid the general feeling on his side of tho country was, that if the Show was held one yard on the further rile of Ohaupo the settlers would not exhibit. Mr Hoohe thought) that it was now too late to alter tho place of meeting. He for onn would object Tory itrongly. He had understood that the Show was to bo at Ohaupo this jetr, and that a genera meeting should afterwards decide as to whether the place of exhibition should be altered. Mr Hammond considered that both pecuniarily, and from b general point of view, a remorul to the race cauno would be a succ ss It would cost a great deal to alter the present ohaii|>o yards to suit Show purposes and the club would derive no ultimate benefit. Mr Byron thought that an the feeling on the point of continuing tk' ."'low at Ohaupo was strong it would be better to study the interests of tbe Sociaty rather than those of this year's Show, and he would therefore propose " I hat the Show helieM in the yardastOuaupo." Seconded by Bir Roche. Mr Hammond moved to test, the feeling of tbe meeting, "Tint Ilie Show he held at tli9 moo-course." Tie resolution wa§ not seconded and lapsed. Mr H'linra >nd sueg#*ted that Mr Eiwirds bo com nunicated with bv the t»ocret ry in order to ascertain upon what terms he would provide the yards for thi' show, a report to be brought up ai a future meeting, Mr Byron withdrew bis resolution, and the resolution embodying Mr Hammond's nuggestiou was seconded by Mr Roche, and c»rried unauimously The question t.f judges was th?n brought forward, aud it was deoi led to write to the following geutlemoo, asking them to act : —
