Owing to the dirty weather— there would b« » heavy sea on &>■ Now Plymouth with the wind blowing as it dil daring the latter end of tho week— the Canterbury football team were unable to play there, and passed on to Nelson, where the match between themselves and the Nelson players was to have taken place yesterday. We bad made arrangements to receive the acoouut of yesterdays sport by telegram, but r gret to siy, that owing to a contact of the ! wire?, which took place lat« in the evening, jeitarday, between Wellington and Auckland, and prevented the tranimission of message, we are unable to carry ont our intentions. Since the match with the Auckland men on Thursday, Mr A M Olivier, who in well k< own in the football and cricketing world of New Zealand tilegraphed from Cbristohurcb, congra'ulating Mr Rohinion, the Ciptftin of the Auckland team, upon hi* victory, and ntftting that, in hia opinion no better team Gould bare been pioked from the Canterbury players to send round the Co'ony.
