THE ALEXANDRA. POLITICAL MEETING.

Sib,— A very improper nse, it will bo. s^en, has been made of th§ resolutions paiied at the po! - tical meeting held at Alexandra on Saturday night hgfc, and but for tliii, 1 should not bare considered the meeting worth reference to. Wa all know here, in Waikato, that such meeting does not rspreient more than * rery v#ry small section of the settlers -that of the forty who concurred with the resolution*, several woro indtiFjron* as to what they Toted for, attending as a party present explained to ms, "to soe (he fun ;" thai tho aotive promoter! wero those who had a grievance against the native office because the Defence Minister had really be»n less venal and corrupt than individually they could havo wished him to have been ; whilst at the bottom of all this was a tmall residuum of perhaps some half dozen bona fide settlers, one or two of whota, as I am sinca informed, are somewhat ashamed of tho part they took in the matter. The meeting, in fact, was a disappointment to its pro* moterii, inasmuch us they were loft by the friendi of Mio Government, 'tho actual people of Waikato, to carry it out unopposed, the latter treating the meeting with indifference and neglect. I think it is only right that this should be olaarly understood outside the Waikato. I see by tho "Cross" that th« resolutions telegraphed to Wellington have been used there with the objeob of convening the impression that the native policy of the Government has been condemn«d by the people of Waikato. The "Herald" seeks to make a similar use of tho meeting in iti issue of the 3rd inst. In justice to the people of th© Waikato dutiict, it should be explicitly understood that the resolutions pitsad at the political meeting of Saturday last at Alexandra in no way roprasent their opinions. — I am &o, Wjlipa. Alexandra, July 9th, 1876.
