THE HAMILTON PUNT.

Sir, — I think some ducrotion should bo used in the matter of loading the Hamilton Ferry at all times. I was a spectator of the scene which took place on Tuesday, and am only surprised that it is the first you have beon called upon to notice. When the late lessees were working the Ferry, I have known the man in ch.ugc (what might seem arbitary, but which was no more than right) refuse to take over a horse, which he knew to bo a vicious one, along with foot passengers, kit made it wa t and go over nlone. Tf it is to be permitted that a vehicle shall take up its position on the ferry, and, that then horses and foot passengcis shall fiU up the remainder of the apace, what can be expected but that some day sonif terrible accident will occur that will shock the wholo community. Above all, no horse should be allowed to stand in rear of the wheels of a cart or carriage, as was the case on Tuesday. It 19 high t me that some more careful supervision was made of the manner in which the ferry is freighted, and, that as long as the district is left to such priraithe method of crossing a swift and dangerous river like tho Waikato, the risk to life and property should bo reduced to a minimum. — 1 am, &c, Passkxgj n.
