CAMBRIDGE. June 7th, 1876.

The appearance of Cambridge is improving day by day. The Highway Board 'hare now two very important works in "hand. Thoy are filling up the disagreeable smd unhealthy hollow opposite the Bank of New Zealand, and adjoining Mr Arnold's premises. This has long been •needed, tut want of funds has, no doubt, iifcherto delayed it. The second work is the catting connecting Duke Street with the wharf road. The roadnow in use runs through private property, and it may at any time be stopped. The new road, although more direct, will nofc, I think, be the most agreeable, the gradient being too steep, judging from the present appearance. The present Board are fully alive to the interests of the town, and under their "* regime' it is fast becoming more pleasing to the eye. The foot *aoa for half a mile, £10 a side, resulted as it was predicted in an easy victory for McNeisb, the course was from Dake-streot round the Government paddock. I understand that a good deal of anoney was won and lost on the occasion. On Friday next the entertainment in aid of the Cambridge school comes off. The object is a good one, and deserves the support of all* The programme \rill consist of a Magic Lnntern exhibition, witk descriptive lecture, l&tfg recitations, solos, <fca Sergt Macintosh has also kindly consented to give one or two of his popular clarionet jjolqs. — Own OORRISPOXDINT.
