LEASE OF HAMILTON FERRY.
The sale of the ferry tolls for tho current year, which took place yesterday, at noon, is as remarkable a proof as could be needed of tho advancement an«l growth of tho district during the p.\st twelve months or more. Last year the tolls were leased for j the sum of .£l5l per annum. This year they have fetched a sum of no less than j £350, paid monthly, und in advance. | Thcio was a large attendance at the sale yesterday, and the bidding was very spirited, there being evidently a largo number of competitors. The first bid was JIIOO, tho second £150, and the bidding then went on by twenties and tens up to £310, when it dropped to £5 bids, and was eventually knocked down to Mr James Moore, of Hamilton, for 1330. After the lease of the ferry Mr Knox sold a number of Government horses at fair prices.
