CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH SOIREE AND CONCERT. Hamilton East.

About 120 persona sat -down to tea on Wednesday evening in the Congregational Church. The trays wore given by Mrs Steole, Mrs R N Cox, Mrs John Wallis, Mrs Treowheellar, Mrs Potter, Mrs John Wood, Mrs Pearson, Miss Mulliong, the Rev Mr Davis and Mr Taylor Ample justice having been done to tho very excellent fare provided, the tables were cleared and the seats arranged for thetnusical part of the performance. On returning, the audience was addressed by the HeY Mr Davis, who gave a short descriptive aocount of his ministerial duties in connection with the East Hamilton Chauch, and the Mission and Sabbath School work <of the district during tho past mine years, after which, a thanksgiving hymn *r*B sung by all present, and prayer was offered by the Rev Mr Davis. In tho unavoidable absence of Caj>t Steele, tho chair was taken by Capt McPhorson. In honour of the day the musical portion of the entertainment was opened with the National Anthem, in which performers and audience joined, the first and second solo parts being sung by Mrs Culpau nnd Mrs Yon Stunner respectfully. Tho programme which was an oxcellent one was considerably lengthoned by repeated oncores. Mr and Mrs Culpan, Mrs Yon Stunner, Miss Bell and Miss Gerrans afforded invaluable assistance with duets and solos to tho evening's performance. Tho only concerted music was that rendered by Mr Da vis's Tonic sol fa class who exocutod Bovoral pieces with finish and taste, doing their musical precoptor, Mr Davis groat credit. The hammer song" rendered by this class Tvaa loudly and deservedly applauded. JSfofc a little of the Buocoßs ot tho evening was due to the excellent manner in which the pieces were Bocompanied bj JMjss Steele who presided at the ,piano throughout, On behalf of the managing committee Mr Taylor — who himself, by th.c way, deserved tho thanks of all 1 for the onorgetic manner in which he assisted in promoting tho comfort and pleasure of those present — -proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the 'Chairman, 'Captain McPherson and to Mr and Mrs Culpau, Mrs Yon Sturmor, Miss Bell and Miss Gerrans, for their kind and valuable assistaueo in tho musical .portion of the programme, also to the ladies who had rendered ovo.y assistance at tbo tables. Tho vote was curried by acclamation and suitably responded to by Mr .Johns. Tho Committee are desirous throHgh our columns of thanking Mr and Mrs Isaao Coates also for the use 'of tho piano. An excellent ovenings Bocial enjoyment was brought to a close by tho choir chorus singing " Home sweot Homo.
