'The 'Queen's Birthday was celebrated there by an assembly of Her Majesty's Jloyal snbjecte, in the Government builddngs. A quiet ball <wae announced the <day before, and almost every family in the place was tbore or represented. Dancing commenced at 9 p m, and was vigorously kept up until swelling song of chanticleer apprised the party that it was nearly time to leave off pleasure and take to business. To ike worthy host of the Royal Mad the thanks of 'the persons participating in ■the 'evening's enjoyment are due. In the first place for moving in the matter, in the next for the admirable way in whioh .everything 1 was carried <ont. ' been determined to bold a meeting «of the inhabitants of tihis district on '•Satmday 27th, to petition the Government to establish an hospital in Ngarua•wfthi*. There-can be no doubt as to the fitness of the present building, and the Sicftlthfalness-of theplaee. Ngaruawahia was •selected as the proper site for a hospital at a time whon the Imperial troops •were in the Wsdkato, because of its being the most convenient place to bring sufferers to, from either rivers, and .also ita iliealthy situation.
