ALEXNDRA. [FROM OUR SPECIAL REPORTER,] May 25, 1876.

Te DAT tho two canoos again proceeded to Kaipiha, having 1 on board Mr Coinniissioncr Kemp, and Messrs Marshall and Morpeth, We started from the landing 1 place at aliout half-past nine p.m., and arrived at the place of meeting at about eleven.

'THE TARBAO KARAKIA, On landing we again heard the Hauhaus at their service. This, wo were told, was the fourth part of the day's programme. They commenced to hold forth ftt saurise, and I have no doubt they coutinue until sunset, and perhaps later.

A DEVOTIONAL PRES3MAN ! i Yoar special was present at the service, kneeling like the rest, to the sore inconvenience of his knees. I rather flatter myself upon my devotional appearauce. Some of the prayers and exhortations ara very good. The men and women conduct the service alternately, Tawhiao's vife took for her text, commencing : " God so loved the vrorld ;" and others equally good ; but the jargon of which the chants are composed are simply ridiculous.

fewer a hat. Taking them as a whole, they ore fine looking uion, with, of course, v, peculiar wildnes* about them, which one jnisscs in the natives -who fvoquoab fclio townships.

THE CONFERENCE. Since yesterday Tawbiao has had several long interviews with Sir Donald. Of course it is <uot advisable that the whole j .substance of fhese "koreros should bo made public* but they we of a highly satisfactory nature. The King is evidently -desirous of coming to a good understanding 'with tho Government. Surely the native •difficulty is coming to an end— tho peace policy of tho Native Minister is bearing Trait at last, much to the disappoinaent -and disgust of the Auckland Opposition The natives one and all express .a favorable opinion of tho Government, ;and anything but confidence in the Grey -party, as Tapiana said on Tuesday the light of Sir DonaM, which has been •doubted so long by his people, is at last shedding a radiance over the whole .North Island,

OCR OOREE3PONDENT DIKES. We were again regalod at the lionse of the Turner's. The dinner consisted of the jame—ioMv correspondent moanß, no doubt, similar.) — ingredients as on yesterday, and general satisfaction waß expressed by •all who partook of the feast. A little more : ringing and praying by the Hauhaus, a little more idling by us, trod Sir Donald advised ub to "be on the move if we wanted to get back before dark. Accordingly a unove was made in the direction of the river, ,and we once more embarked in 'Our irail craft and gave ourselves up to the mercy of the fickle element. (One canoe ' sufficed to take -us 'back, font <$ho was heavily ladeu, the human ireigbt numbering -twenty-three, about ■one-half being fl>Jl81,««. -Shall I tell you of the voyage 1 J±ovr the natives sang a chant which had no connection whatever with the stroke of the paddlesi Bow the rain came pattering .down on the water the best part of the journey 1 The -banks of the river are^hero very ;pretty ttnd there is florae good land abutting on tho water ; but lam tcld that igorae distance away it becomes heavy and utterly unsuitable for grass. The renmains of -cultivation are seen on either Jhand, and vthe furze is insinuating itself iinto. every corner. Wo -were shown the ireraains of itwo or three fortifications on ithe banks/ which the -"hoary hand of Timo" .is .fast-decorating with forn and tiitreo. [Looking -along amdor tho tliroo mmbrellfts raised, which belonged to Mr .Kemp, Mr Morpeth, and Tapiana, tho <canoo resembled the s.b. Alart ; but <per)haps she was steadier — indeed sho behaved '.very .handsomely. -And .while our fears <on 'this score wore quieted, we had ample tfood for amusement and rumination in the .gratesque'costumes of tho crew. One had <bv some'Uicans or other become possessed . <of a white '" belltopper," and he was in?atantly chridtencd by the outlandish name «of " Bolltopoti," and Bdiltopoti was many times exhorted to " wire in" and get his .name up, to which he had many and vari•ous objections. Alas ! as poor Artomus "Wavd'was wont to say, that such tilings *honld have an end ; but It came in the •feluipe of a few tuitui bushes, where we -disembarked, and took a temporary fareiweUof the "trimbuilt wherry)" and trudged iliotelwarde ithrough 'the dirty, slushy, fern trucks, andfound our "warmest •welcome at an inn." To-morrow we again move up the stream, nvhon >tho important part of the .meeting 'will take place. I have omitted to say that the Rev To 'Tamwhiti and Tapiana got up thero in the :afternoon per special canoe. The former .at once p»id his respects to the King. May 26. Wo again go to Kaipeha 'to-morrow..
