NGARUAWAHIA. May 8, 1876.
IHE townßliip has been all astir t..e last few da\s owing to tue number of natives attending the Native Lands Court held h*re by Judge Fenton ; nor would anyone think to ha\e seeu it in this state th.it business w«s dull, and that the glory oi Ichabod had departed. The petition for the sale of the suburban lauds is ben>£ signed by everybody. If the pruyer of it is granted, it will be the ! salvation of the district— the shove that will push us over tha piuch and give us a clear road before us. There are a score of men in this township who, if the hinds I were opened at from L 2 to L 5 per acre, would buy small holdings and settle down, bur, who, if this is not done, will oarry away their savings to other districts. ]t is not only the land in the immediate neighbourhood of the township that wants throwing open, but we neeJ more easy access being ra rt de from the back settlenienfs to this township. We want to see the A.C. party, who have done a large amount of work about Te Eore, put on the new ro.ul between Heather's Creek and Wlmta Wh.ita, lately surveyed by Mr Clarke. This road is mujh shorter than the old one, and much more fit for traffic, anil if completed, would, now that, the A..G. have done so mudi to the .'oad between What.i YVliuta and this place, enable the Alexandra and Harapipi people to come wiih ease direct through JVgaruawahia to Auckland aud other settlements between us and the latter place. This road has had nothing done to it except a small bridge here and there, and, if it was made passable, would enable much land lo be brought into profitable occupation. — Corrjbspojtdent.
