THE FUNERAL OF THE LATE CAPT. LESLIE.
On Saturday the mortal remains of the late Capt W Norman Leslie were consigned to their last resting place in the ceunetry, Hamilton East. The funeral was the largest that has erer taken place in Waikato since its occupation by European settlers. Neaily three hundred jerso ltt joined in the procession, and there weie fully a hundred hoi semen present. The funeral cortege Fefc out from the residence of Mr Patrick Leslie, the father of the deceased, at 2 p ni, preceded by the Rev W CUlder. The large concourse had only reached the gate leading from the home paddocks jwhan ii was met by the members of the Masonic body, who having dul> assembled in Lodge, ha I marched out iv order to the number of about 40, and on coming up to the cortege reversed order, and, as is usual in Masonic funerals, headed the procession to the burial ground. Arrived at the gateway to the cemetry, the Masons opened out in order, and the bearers with the coffin, proceeded by the clergyman, having passed through their ranks, they agdiu closed in and took up position behind the corpse. Tha funeral service of the Uhurcb of England was then read by the Eev Mr (Jalder, the coffin, however not being lowered into the grave' at tbe usual time. This service concluded, Past Mister Brother M:icpheraon impressively delivered the Masonic burial service, the responses beiu* given by the rest of the Brethren, and thet-olfin was lowered.
