On reierenu-e to llajdn'a dictionary of dates, -we find under the head of " Joint" Stock Banks " the following :—" Since thj Act of George IV., 1826, a vast number of banks Under this denomination have been established in almost etery large town in the Kingdom. The note circulation of Joint aioi'k Uanks on October 1, 1855, was -in England £3,990,800 ; in Scotland, .. £4,280,000 ; and in Ireland, £6,785,000."
