OUR CAMBRIDGE CORRESPONDENT AND " BLACK TURF."
Sib,— lt would bo affectation on my part to »»J I had not rend ft lettor m yesterday's issue signed "Black TwiflP," or *• Black Turf," or blaok something. 1 have read it ; nay more, I i tare bestowo.i a moment's thought upoa it, which is more thau it deserves. A perusal of it •uggests the question, " What does tbe writer or k anyone else gam by it ?" There are some 2,000 f types employed to sst it up, and it occupies nearly a third of a column. T&king the circulation of the Waikato Times at COO copies, ther* must be about 200 column?, or eight sheets the sibq of the Times filled with this letter ! There must alao have been a considerable quantity of iakuiedj-tesay uothing#f the p*p«r, pent, and ink, add the valuable time v (vrhioh could hare been at well utilised in digging potatoes) wasted on the nvmuscnpt of this precon eputle ! Now, what ii there to eet against this ? Nothing, absolutely nothing, I bare read this— l w«« going to say Jotter — in ft good spirit, and with all fairness, and I would have been glad to hay» recognised in it anything that approathtd wit ok fun, or even reasonable chaff. I would hare welcomed it as auign that such things wer« not dead in the district, Men though I were tbe butt; but sach vulgar mumblings as theaa of " Blaok Whiff*" can only hare one effect to fill all respectable peFaons Trith ditgusU I hare read, -we have all read in our time, much that wm unworthy of publication, but such d» gutting foolery, such purposeless nonsense sues methodlett madness, surely never before defiled ■clean paper !— l am, <fee, Oaubbisqi CobbsbPONDKNT.
