The question of keeping thoie 'reserves open for publio use was fully discussed, and a luoid explanation entered into by Mr Oox, MHE, on whoie account the reierrei were advertised to be auotioned along with other Government w serves in the Waikato. The following resolution waa eventually*oarried, " That this meeting viewi with alarm the fact that lots 78 and 79, buth re- . serves, in the parish of Te Rapa, county of Waikato, being advertised for salt on the 3rd of May next, and that a memorial be forwarded to the Hon Or Pollen, Waste Land* Commissioner, requesting him to withdraw from sale the said lots 78 and 79 t to reserve them and all bushes in the Hamilton Highway District not already alienated for the purposes for which they were originally intended — viz., for the purpose of supplying eettler* -with timber for building, fencing, avd Orewood, under proper regulations and restrictions." On thu being carried, |» petition embodying the resolution was at ones drawn up, and signed then and there by over 40 settlers and residents. Mr Cox, who leaves for Auokland today* -signed the petition and oonsented to convey it to • the flon Dr Pollen, and point oat the importance of steps being immediately taken in the matter. A. full report of the proceedings will appear in our issae of Saturday next, being too lengthy for pubhoa tion to-day owing the lateness of the hoar at which the meeting terminated.
