Wwkat Growing.— In reference to the article on " Wheat Growing an Experiment," re pubhrhed iv this journal of Taesday last, a corruipoudent. write* as follows : — " To the Editor i Bir, — Tonr communicated experiment, in wheat growing u surely a great blunder If a man it wrong in hit figures ha i» probably wrong in every other calculation. How Im makts drilling 80 acres, at 6d per acre, come to £9 [this should bare been 6» per acre] I cannot understand ; neither can I perceive how 449} bushels, at 4s Bd, came to £105 Is. I should call it more like £95 8i 7d. Your correspondent must hare gone most expensively to work, and on very bad land, to require 11 men, at 7» per day, lor three days, to tbreth 443 bushels of wheat, besides a oott of £12 8s for threshing 124 bag*, at 2§ per bag, by a thieshing machine. His cost for threshing would amount to £29 bj mu chine, when by hand labour it would onlj co*t £22. Your correspondent Kerns bent on piling up expenses, in order to prove tbat it cannot pay to grow wheat. I ace no charge for manure, which is probably the secret of 10 •mall an average crop as 14 bushels per acre. An expenditure of £50 to £60, in bonedust or other manure would probably have doubled the crop, and the expenses only a little increased. A man cannot live without food, neither oan the land produce without feeding. 1 am no farmer, propfrlj so-called, and am porhaoi, therefore, rash hi thus writing; but my constant communication with some of oar brst and nsott practical agriculturists and growers of wheat crops for years tells me *uoh a different taU that I feel apt to doubt your correspondent. I do not doubt the result of hi* own experience, bat I do, »nd I hope without offence, doubt bis practical judgment. There are very many who, Wing i he practical knowledge, could set him is^ht, but they will not takt the trouble to do so. I h&ve grown 40 bushels upon one sunvs since I bare b*ra in tb« ooionj, but 1 twlirre 40 but^eii u a fiur sroj>,
