CAMBRIDGE FARMERS' CLUB.
usual monthly meeting of tin* ' members of this club was held at the National Hotel, oo Tuesday last, the 4th inst. The following- were present: — MessfK. Clark, S. S. Graham, Hickß, John Ilunciman. W. M. Douglas and John Hunt. In the absence of the President and Vice-President, Mr. G. E. Claik was voted to the Chair. Mr. Hunt acted as Secretary. As many had been kept away by a notice lv the Times stating that the meeting would not take place until next Tuesday, a discussion arose as to the advisability of "postponing the meeting until that time. On referring to the rules, however, it was found that they had no power to adjourn ; rule.two stating that the meetings must be held on the Tuesday preceding the full moon, ft artts decided, therefor I©,1 ©, to "proceed with the business of the clab. In the absence of the Secretary, the first business was balloting for new members. The candidates nominated at the last meetiiig were, Messi-s. Leslie, Cox, and Steele. On a ballot bein&f taken they were declared to have been unanimously elected. A letter was road from M" r. J. A. Douglas, apologising for his absence and stating that he was obliged to be in Auckland on that day. Owing to the absence df Mf. James Euncimftn, who had been tnfs-led by the notice referred to above, there was no ossay. With reference to this matter Mr. Hunt moved "That, judging from evidence before this meeting, it is quite clear that Mr. Jamea RunCiman has been mis-led by a notice in the Waikato Times relatiye to this meutiug being postponed t> this day week, and that he bo therefore exempt

Mr. Hicks thought it wa3 most desirable that some notice should be taken of the circumstance which had deprived the club of one of its most useful members. He would therefore beg 1 to move "That this meeting desires to place on lecord its deep regret at tho serious 10-s this club has sastaincd in the death of one of its le-iding members, the late Mr. J. C. Reynolds, and also to sympathise most sincerely with the .parents of the deceased gentleman, in their great affliction." Mr John Runcinun seconded the resolution which was curried unanimously. Mr John Euncirnan in accordance with a notice of motion made at the late meeting, moved :— "That rulesix be expunged." He thought that if members did not take sufficient interest in the Club to attend, the rule in question would not have the effect of making them do so. Mr Hicks thought it was the otily course open to them, he would beg leave to second the motion. : Messrs' GraKam •<& ?isher alrfo'cpoke in support. On being put to the meeting, the resolution was passed with only one dissentient voice — Mr Clark's. Mr Hicks proposed Mr R'Parr as a candidate fbr election at the next meeting. Lie was 'glad' to Bee that so many persons were desirous of becoming members of the Club, aud of participating in the itta'ny advantages to be derived from it. Mr John Fisher seconded the nomination. The following notices of motion nrlade. Mr Hicks gave n6tice that at the next meeting he would bring 1 forward a resolution relative to the tmnu.il inspection of member'^ farms, with a viev to awarding prizes for certain crops. Mr Jo'Lti Runcinian gave notice that at tho-txext but one, he would read an essay on "Thorns." He did &o now because he would not be present at their nert meeting.
