I thould very much like lo know if there is any statistical evidence to show what amount of money has been raited by local Highway Boards and 'what -proportion the reproductive hat borne' to the non-reproduc-tiv« expenditure, by the latter, I mean salaries, &c. [The report ofthe Begistrar General fer 1874, furnishes the ' following particulars : Of 300 road and local Boards, returns more or less complete ht7o been received from 277. Returns from 138 Boards fehow that the lotal value of the land embraced within their limits amounted to £7,195,307 arid the returni of 108 other roadboards grave a gross annual value of £1,027,335. If the annual value %c -estimated at 10 per cent of the total value, the entire annual vrfneof the land within the limits oftheie 246 boards may be estimated a^£1,746,«^5. 'The total revenue, so ' far as information has been given, of 270 Road Boards in' tho Colony was £384,002 18s 3Jd, of which, about £54,063 wa* from rates received.
