PIAKO. IMPORTANT NATIVE MEETING.
A large native meeting which had been called by Mr Jas Mackay for the purpose -of completing the -purchase of a block of land in the Pialco and Okinemuvi districts, '•with which to negotiate for the transfer of a tract cf flat country in the Piako district partly under water, has been going <jn during the past few days without com 'ing bo any satisfactory conclusion. Very ■ little 'was done beyond a large amount of i talk 'wjd the '.usual sating and drinking, ' the nasi«W seeming to know well the value ' of the respective portions of land, and to 1 prefer dry land to swamp. The meeting was held at a. place called Waitrikaruru. Mr Mackay is not to be baulked in his 1 undertaking, And a second and still larger meeting will, we are informed, fee shortly held at Parawai with the object of conciliating the Ngatipoa portion of the natives concerned. — Own Coreespondent.
