Ti.URA.VGA. 'Koine of the Arawas are showing opposition to the Government roads. Ngaterau^iuieroweti branch of the Arawa tribe claim the light to the land on the south side of the Maugarewa Bridge, on the road* midway in the dense 'bush leading to llotorua. The Government for some time has been employing natives in the Contingent Foace repairing this deplorable road. On Tuesday morning the road party went out to commence work, when they found all thoir tools taken away. A search inqniiy was instituted, but nothing was found until yesterday. They were found planted in the dense forest. Mr Mailii Rangikaheke, M.H.R., is in trouble. He is charged with stealing a storekeeper's purse, 'Containing 1 six sovereigns; Yesterday and to-day Mailu has been arraigned before Mr Hamlin, at Olnnemutu.
Wellington. It is understood the Government will pi ovule a passage From the Thames for men to work on the Wellington and Maaterton Hail way. Mr Oakes, the cou tractor, has through the Thames agent engaged about 150. Probably the steamer will be sent direct from the Thames to Wellington, if a .suitable vessel can be chartered.
