TAUPIRI. March 7th, 1876.

A meeting of householders, settlers, and other rwrtdeate in this 'locality «vac held yesterday evening, at Mr Lovells store, for the purpose of 'taking the educational requirements of the district into consideration, and electing <a School Committee. Mr Lovell being Arofced to the -chair, and it being clearly % shdwn 'that the district had very strong claims for Government aid, the following were chosen members of th<v Scho6l - Committee, viz :— Messrs Lovejj (chairman). Thorn, Smyth, Crapp,andMurtough. These then proceeded to meraoralize the Eoivd df Education to the following effect : 1st — That the district is paying the Government upwards of £50 annually in the shape of household and capitation taxes for educational purposes -without receiving any benefit whatever in return. 2nd — That there are in the district more than the required number of children whose ages are within the limits laid down by the Act. 3rd— That the neareßt Government school is beyond the range prescribed by the Act ; and 4th— That, taking all these circumstances into consideration, together with the fact that the district possesses no other means of educating its children than what is afforded by a private school, the teacher of which will shortly be compelled to leave owing to inadequate support, the memoralists urge on the Board the necessity of aiding the district by supplementing the teacher's income, and otherwise meeting its pressing educational wants.— (Own Correspondent.)
