MR LESLIE'S LINCOLN RAMS.

Sfit, — In your issue of the" 2nd nut, you hate been good enough to notice that' some forty rams had been suit "by mo to Napier for Sir Donald 'MoLean. There it, however, a flight error in the deicriptioa 'of the** sheep^ 'The paragraph | might lead people to suppose that they were purt ' bred sheep whereas they are 15 16ths being goo by imported pure brad Lincoln rains out of 7 Sths ewes. The ProVinoe of Auckland enjoys an unenviable notoriety for misrepresenting crossbred to be pur* bred sheep, and ? an idea seems to pervade the minds of some breeders that four or fire crosaes with pure sires constitutes pure progeny. I have not yet arrived at tbis conclusion, and still adhere to what is an acknowledged fact in England (where they know something about sheep) that purity can only be obtained from aires and dams both the progeny of perfectly pure sheep for many years and generations. While throughly agreeing with you flint the rams I sent to Sir Donald McLean are extremely good i heep, I have no wish that they should be repre - sented to be better bted than they really are, and I will be rery much obliged by your giving insertion to this communication in y6ur next issue. — I un, Ao, Patrick Leslii. Wat-tie, 3rd March, IB7t>.
